Hypodermic Needle Removal – Shrewsbury
Vortex cleaning has just completed a hypodermic needle sweep which took place in Sundorne, Shrewsbury. Subcontracted by Jones & Hampton to clear the one bed flat on behalf of Severnside housing association; Vortex cleaning took three complete working days to remove 32 full sharps boxes. Upon arrival it became clear that extra precautions were to be taken due to the fact that drug residue (Consisting of heroine, marijuana and cocaine) were found within the stairway and throughout the remainder of the flat. During the removal process needles were discovered amongst the sofa; therefore, to be certain that no one was to be harmed by used needles, the soft furnishings were to be stripped. Methadone cups, spoons and full sharps boxes were also scattered around the property, showing that the tenant was an adamant drug user. However not just drug paraphernalia was found amongst the possessions of the tenant. Throughout the property there were numerous amounts of dead and live insects; these included live and dead maggots, fruit flies and a dead wasps nest. Also spread around the kitchen was animal faeces which had been left for a number of weeks. In and around the bathroom were several used sanitary products discarded on the floor. Finally many other items (such as clothes, books and general rubbish) had been carelessly left the floor. Throughout the clearance of the flat it became apparent that the local neighbourhood were not aware of their neighbours’ extreme drug addiction. At the end of the three working days all the tenants’ possessions had been removed from the flat and placed in storage around the corner.
