Silkin Way Bridge, Madeley, Telford

Project Details

Client: Telford & Wrekin Council

Service Provided: Pressure Washing

Contract Value: £3,000-£4,000

Completion Date: March 2023

Project Overview

The Silkin Way bridge spanning over Madeley High Street had seen many years of constant use, with traffic, pedestrians, weathering, and general debris taking a noticeable toll on its appearance. To restore the bridge and improve the overall look of the surrounding area, we were appointed to carry out a full pressure washing and cleaning programme.

Our Scope of Works

Our team completed a thorough clean of the bridge structure, focusing on the removal of:

  • Long-term dirt and grime
  • Traffic film and environmental build-up
  • Debris collected within hard-to-reach sections

This deep clean was designed to refresh the structure, enhance public perception, and contribute to the wider upkeep of the Silkin Way route.

Methods & Approach

To minimise disruption to residents, businesses, and road users, all works were carried out on a weekend. Our approach included:

  • Implementing a full road closure to create a safe working zone beneath the bridge
  • Using professional high-pressure and steam cleaning equipment to effectively lift stubborn dirt
  • Coordinating with local authorities and traffic teams to ensure safety for both operatives and the public
  • Working efficiently in low-traffic periods to reduce impact as much as possible

This method allowed us to complete the clean quickly, safely, and without interference with daily activity in the town.

Project Outcome

Once the pressure washing was complete, the bridge was noticeably brighter, cleaner, and more presentable. Years of build-up were removed, revealing the structure’s original finish and giving the high street a welcome visual lift.

The project was delivered safely, on schedule, and with minimal disruption to the surrounding community demonstrating our capability in managing out-of-hours works in busy public environments.
